Bandwidth
Merupakan suatu kapasitas maksimal dalam proses memindahkan data di dalam jaringan elektronik seperti Bus atau Channel. Lebih singkatnya, yaitu jumlah data maksimal yang dapat dipindahkan di dalam satuan waktu tertentu. Bandwidth ini biasanya diekspresikan dalam satuan bit, byte atau Hertz.
Buffered
Buffered ini maksudnya menambahkan komponen logika tambahan ke dalam sebuah SIMM atau DIMM untuk meningkatkan arus keluaran. Ini dilakukan untuk menghindari pengurangan kualitas sinyal data akibat dari proses kapasitansi. Modul memory yang termasuk jenis 'buffered' biasanya memiliki chip-chip buffer kecil.
CAS
Column Address Select/Strobe adalah sebuah pin pengontrol yang ada pada sebuah chip DRAM yang digunakan untuk memilih dan mengaktifkan alamat-alamat kolom pada memory. Sebuah olom yang dipilih pada DRAM, ditentukan oleh data yang berada pada pin-pin alamat ketika CAS mulai aktif.

How Do Search Engines Work?

One of the biggest reasons why many organizations are not doing even simple things to help people find their websites in search engines is they simply don't understand how search engines work. This article is intended to explain the basics of how search engines work and in the course of doing so shatter some search engine myths and help you understand what you can do to help people find your website in search engines.
What is a search engine?
The first to step to understanding how search engines work is to understand what a search engine is. The simplest explanation is that search engine is a tool for finding things online. There are many different types of search engines but they can be put into two major categories…
Human-Powered Directories
The first "search engines" were not actually search engines as we think of them today, but searchable directories of websites organized by hierarchical categories. A site is added to a directory when the website owner fills out a submission form on the directory's website requesting their site be included in the directory and include their website's title, description, URL (web address), and category. A moderator later reviews the site and if it meets the directory's criteria a listing for that site is added or activated. The original Yahoo was originally a human-powered directory, and directories like Open Directory Project continue on today.
The downside of the human-powered search engine is that it only includes websites that have been submitted to it, which means you may not find what you're looking for especially if it's a new web page. The other downside from the directories' point of view is that reviewing every site submitted is very labor-intensive and costly. I know because my company's "search engine", OurChurch.Com's Directory of Christian Websites, like almost all church/Christian "search engines", is a human-powered directory.
Crawler/Spider-Powered Search Engines
The next generation of search engines has programs which actively seek out new sites and read them into their indexes. These programs are called crawlers, spiders, robots, or bots. All of largest and most popular search engines today are of this type, including Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.
The rest of this article is focused on how these crawler/spider-powered search engines work because more than 99% of searches are done on this type of search engine.
The CrawlerAs mentioned above, the first part of a search engine is the crawler (AKA spider, robot, and bot). The crawler reads pages into the search engine raw database of every page the search engine crawler has read. Some important things to know about crawlers…
1) Search bots periodically reread every web page in their database. Why does this matter?
• You don't have to do anything when you change your site. If your site is already listed in a search engine and you make changes to your website, search engines will eventually update their information.
• You do have to be patient. The frequency of re-crawling varies depending on the search engine, the importance of your site (as determined by the search engines), and how often you update it. It could take a day or it could take more than a week.
2) Search bots follow links on the pages that have already been crawled in order to find new pages. Why does this matter?
• If you add a new page to your website or create a new website, it's important to add a link to it on a web page that is already in the search engines.
• If a web page that is already in the search engines has a link to your new page or new website, you do not need to submit a request to the search engines to crawl the new page or website, though it may still be worth doing just to be sure your website will be found quickly.
3) Some search engines have forms you can submit to request a website be crawled. Why does this matter?

Exactly which factors a search engine looks at and how they're weighted is called the search engine's search ranking algorithm. It's like the search engine's "secret sauce." Each search engine's algorithm is different and each is a heavily guarded secret.
Why does this matter?
• There is time between when your site is crawled (or recrawled) and when it is processed or indexed. So, it can take as little as a few hours to many days or weeks before changes to your website may produce changes in its search rankings.
• Because each search engine's ranking algorithm is different, a web page can be #1 in Google but #20 in Yahoo for a particular phrase.
• Because each search algorithm is a heavily guarded secret nobody outside of a few select engineers at each search engine knows exactly how much each particular factor weighs into the rankings of each search engine. But, people who spend their professional lives helping sites rank better in search engines have gained very good idea as to what factors matter most.
• Because the search ranking algorithms look at text, headings, and other elements on a web page, changing things on the web page can change where that web page appears in the search results.
• Search ranking algorithms look at factors outside of a web page, such as the age of a website and links to the web page. So, there are other factors which you may have less influence over.
The goal of every search engine is to display to the user the information or websites the user is looking for. In other words every search engine wants to provide the best, most relevant results. As a result, search engines are constantly improving their algorithms and including new factors which they think will produce better search results. Why does this matter? As search algorithms change, so will your website's search engine rankings.
The Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs)

The last part in the search process is part that you're probably most familiar with - the actual search. You type in a word, short phrase, or question, and the search engine displays a list of websites.
That list of websites is called the search engine results page and sometimes referred to as the SERPs.
If you do a search and look at the SERP, you'll notice two columns. Above the right column it says "Sponsored Links." These are paid advertisements. The companies and organizations listed here pay a fee to Google for each person who clicks their ad, so they're often referred to as Pay-Per-Click or PPC ads.
In the left column are the unpaid search results also sometimes called the organic results or natural results. These are the websites the search engine believes are most relevant to the search phrase that was queried. Sometimes search engines also display sponsored links in the left column above the natural results or will even place a block of pay-per-click ads in the middle of the natural results. Sponsored links are always labeled, though not always very clearly.
Why does this matter?
From the searcher's perspective, there is nothing wrong with clicking on a paid link. You may find what you're looking for there. But it's important to be aware of which websites paid to be in the results and which are there naturally.
From the web administrator's perspective, it's important to understand there are two opportunities to get to the top of the search engine rankings, through natural results and by purchasing pay-per-click advertising.
Help the Search Engines
With a better understanding how search engines work, you can make better decisions about the marketing of your website though search engines. Search engines need your help to find your website and to know what words and phrases it's relevant for. Give them the help they need. That's where search engine optimization comes in, but I'll get to that on another day.

Each time a Page Rank is updates, confusion about your site's Page Rank is caused by the same common issues. The confusion lies in the fluctuation's meaning to the site's owner. Some of the most common issues are these:
1. It is not a penalty if, during an update, your Page Rank decreases slightly. In the Google toolbar, the PR rank is merely a grade that Google assigns you. Your PR could lower if you lose some powerful links, or if sites that you link to lose PR, yours will decrease as well. You can also lose PR if Google alters the way they determine PR. Keeping up with your content will keep your PR from lowering. There are many reasons for drop in PR, but it is by no means a penalty. You will only be penalized for doing something that doesn't abide with the Webmaster Guidelines. This will result in removal from the index, or a significant drop in rankings.
2. PR that is displayed is not current. The PR is only current after an update. You could have made a well rounded link profile, even added an interface for user generated content, and still have a PR4 after a couple months. Do not worry about it, because you do not know your actual PR.
3. Higher rankings are not equal to higher PR. Focus on your traffic, rankings and conversions instead of your PR. many searches have PR0-3 that outrank PR4-6, so it is not the only method in the Google algorithm that measures your sites ranking. unless you are selling your links on your site, and need to show your PR as high to sell, do not worry about the PR. Be sure to keep that in perspective, while not completely ignoring it. PR is the general snapshot of your site in the eyes of Google. Generally, you will rank higher with high PR, but that is just one piece of the puzzle.
4. PR juice flows. Do not obsess about your PR, but realize that high PR links flow PR to your site as well. It is not as valuable to worry about your own site's PR as it is to ensure that your incoming links are from high or mid PR sites. If you are looking to gain links, naturally mix in high PR pages. When looking at PR as a trust snapshot, then getting a link from a trusted site, while being relevant to your industry, will boost your PR and you ranking.
Usually, a drop or increase in PR that doesn't coincide with traffic or search results should not worry you. It is an awesome thing to see your PR rise, but traffic is what really matters.

ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 R2.0 Motherboard
Introduction
ASRock is well known for their economy-priced motherboards and their innovative solutions for complex problems, often to cut costs on their products. My favorite example is the ASRock Switch Card, a card that plugs into a slot similar to laptop memory that contains the circuitry for running either a single video card, or multiple video cards. This circuitry must reside somewhere in the motherboard. ASRock places it in a separate card to prevent having to put it into the motherboard itself, which saves money, and the savings are passed on to the customer.
As I mentioned, ASRock's boards are economy-priced, I guess the most expensive ASRock motherboard I've seen was about $130. ASRock didn't build an X38 or X48 board, both chipsets were designed for upper-end performance motherboards, and I assume that ASRock had no desire to get into that market.
The i7 is here, and the only chipset that supports it is the Intel X58. It will be awhile before the Core 2 disappears, but don't plan on seeing new products that support it. I found myself wondering a couple of months ago if ASRock would build an LGA 1366 motherboard, because it will be a while before they will get much under $200.
A couple of weeks ago I saw a reference to the ASRock SuperComputer, and I made the comment to Bob that it did exist. His answer was "I know, and you are getting one."
I am no stranger to ASRock's motherboards, reviewing six of them last year and one so far this year. I am glad that ASRock decided to get into the i7 game this early, and look forward to seeing what they have done with the X58 chipset. If you are wondering about the name, ASRock is the first motherboard manufacturer to add nVidia's Tesla Personal Supercomputer technology to a Core 1366 motherboard. Nothing surprising about that, again, innovation is what ASRock is all about. Will the X58 SuperComputer impress? Read on to see!

Packaging
A mainstream motherboard deserves a nice box, and ASRock has placed the X58 SuperComputer in a holographic box with a handle. The box is covered with graphics, specs, and features.
Inside, the sizable bundle is separated from the full-sized motherboard by a nicer cardboard divider than you usually see with an ASRock board.

Deteksi dan Pembersihan Conficker/Recycler/Kido
Virus Conficker/Recycler/Kido ini (selanjutnya disebut virus Conficker) adalah virus yang sudah menyebar ke lebih dari 10 juta komputer di dunia. Di Indonesia sendiri diperkirakan sudah puluhan ribu komputer terinfeksi virus ini. Penyebarannya sangat canggih lewat internet, jaringan, dan Autorun di USB Flashdisk. Virus ini juga memanfaatkan sebuah bug di Microsoft Windows untuk menginfeksi sebagian besar jaringan perusahaan. Microsoft mengecam pembuat virus ini dan bahkan Microsoft berjanji akan memberikan $250.000 (Rp3 Milyar) bagi siapa saja yang bisa menangkap pelaku pembuatan virusnya.
Mungkin di situs lain sudah sangat banyak analisis dan cara pembersihan virus Conficker ini misalnya vaksin, kaspersky, microsoft, dan ribuan situs/blog lainnya. Google Earth 5 review
The Google Earth 5 beta adds oceans, Martian terrain and a time machine.
Navigating Google Earth can seem unwieldy at times, but the process of clicking and dragging quickly becomes intuitive.
However, the fastest way to find places is still entering a name into the text search field, which causes the 3D sphere to spin, pan and zoom until the area is centralised on your screen.
But this method does have its problems. For example, search for 'Ground Zero' and the top hit is a company with a similar name in North Manhattan – not what you'd expect from an industry-leading search company.
As new features go, the Ocean mode is only likely to absorb your attention for a relatively short period. It's very blue, and very barren. The various links are often insightful, but we'd prefer 3D models of shipwrecks and coral formations to small white icons.
Mars is similarly gimmicky. There's only so much time that you can spend staring in wonder at a lifeless extraterrestrial wasteland. Google Earth remains fascinating, however, and it's near limitless in scope. You owe it to yourself to visit.

What to Look For in Your Next Color Laser Printer
When choosing the right color laser printer for your business, you should weigh the importance of certain key features.
If you're looking to outfit your business with a new printer, now is a great time to buy a color laser. Whether you're a single user who prints newsletters at home or you're buying for a corporate marketing department that designs collateral materials, you're in a buyer's market. Color laser printers are becoming progressively faster, smaller, and cheaper to operate than ever before, and with prices starting at $300, they're affordable for all budgets.
The lowest-end (sub-$500) color laser printers, while incredibly affordable, are typically slow and have limited paper capacity--and they aren't cheap to operate, due to the relatively high cost of consumables. Printers in the $500-to-$1000 range are faster, handle more paper and different paper sizes, and cost less to maintain than inexpensive models. If you're prepared to pay over $1000, the sky's the limit: You'll find printers with workhorse print speeds, large-capacity paper trays, lower costs per page, and sophisticated paper options. Here are a few key features to consider when looking for a color laser that will work best for your business.
The Need for Speed
Before you buy any printer, you'll need to figure out how many pages your office prints per month. Then you'll need to look at the specified engine speed and monthly duty cycle of the printer you're considering, to see whether your usage pattern fits within the printer's capabilities.
The printer's engine speed, expressed as a page-per-minute (ppm) specification, tells you how fast the printer is under ideal conditions (or, in some cases, the rather unnatural conditions achieved in a vendor's test environment). In our tests for our Top 10 Color Laser Printers chart, most printers do no better than 75 percent of their top engine speed. The cheapest color laser printers, not surprisingly, are usually far pokier than their makers claim them to be. Nevertheless, engine speed is a decent guideline for figuring out whether the printer can handle your office's output on a day-to-day basis. The more people who use the printer, and the more they print, the higher that engine speed should be--unless you like hanging around the printer with your coworkers, waiting to see whose print job comes out first.
The same goes for the printer's specified duty cycle, which defines the manufacturer's threshold for the maximum number of pages printed per month. You want a lot of room between your usual print volume and that maximum. Light-duty, entry-level printers typically have a duty cycle of 30,000 pages per month. Sub-$1000, midrange printers have an average duty cycle of 60,000 pages per month; high-volume, $1000-to-$2000 printers average 100,000 pages per month.
The Resolution Game
Do you need to worry about a printer's optical resolution--the number of dots per inch it can print? Probably not. Even the least expensive color laser printers have a true, optical resolution of 600 by 600 dpi, which is suitable for most mainstream business needs. Many vendors apply enhancement algorithms to emulate higher resolutions, and some offer true 1200-by-1200-dpi resolution. But don't worry about the higher resolution unless you need a truly fine level of print quality. Just be prepared to wait longer for your print to come out.
An equally important factor in your buying decision should be the cost per page to operate the printer. All printer consumables come with a page-life specification that tells you how many pages the unit will print, based on a sample set of printed pages. Your mileage will vary, depending on what you actually print.
The lowest-end color lasers have smaller toner cartridges that usually last just a few thousand pages. They cost a lot to replace, but if you use color sparingly, then you won't be swapping out the cartridge often. If you print a lot of color, you need a machine whose toner cartridges have longer page lives; they cost less per page and, of course, don't have to be replaced as frequently.
In most color laser printers (especially at the lower end), the toner cartridges include the toner, the imaging component, and the toner waste receptacle in a self-contained unit. Though this design is easier to deal with on a day-to-day basis, it's generally more expensive in the long run, because you have to replace all of those parts at once. Some printers, mostly at the higher end, separate the components and give them different page lives. Installing replacements in this kind of setup requires more skill and finesse, but models of this design cost less to operate over time.
Be aware that even some high-end printers ship with low-capacity, "starter" toner cartridges. These cartridges typically have a yield of less than half that of replacement cartridges. You could save some money up front by finding a vendor that offers to bundle additional toner cartridges at a discounted price when you buy the printer.
Paper Traffic
Another significant difference among color laser printers is how they handle paper--how much, and of what size. The main paper tray on the vast majority of inexpensive (sub-$500) printers tops out at 250 sheets. Often you don't get an option to add an extra paper tray. Another potential drawback is that such printers usually can't handle anything larger than legal-size paper--and in a few cases, the only way to print legal-size documents on such models at all is through the manual-feed tray. In fact, lately we've seen a few lower-end printers that skip legal-size paper entirely in their standard configurations.
As you go up the price scale, you'll find paper-tray capacities of up to 600 sheets for midrange printers and nearly 1200 sheets for higher-end units. Paper trays on these models almost always accept both letter- and legal-size paper. Wide-format printers will take tabloid-size paper, which could be handy if you want to print booklets or other, more-sophisticated documents in-house.
If you print on photo paper, transparencies, CD/DVD sleeves, or envelopes, you'll need to assess the printer's ability to handle those media. Often you'll need to use the manual-feed tray for that kind of printing. We've encountered the good, the bad, and the ugly in manual-feed tray designs. During a recent evaluation of the HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni, we couldn't induce a paper jam no matter what we tried. We crumpled and folded and spindled, but each page sailed straight through the printer without a hitch. On the other hand, the Oki C8800n, another model we tested recently, had an incredibly complicated and unintuitive manual-feed tray design that the documentation didn't even fully explain. A poor design such as that of the Oki also increases the possibility of users breaking several of the parts.
Reliable Color
All color lasers self-regulate for color consistency by performing regular calibration routines. The process helps to ensure that the twenty-fifth copy of your brochure will look basically the same as the first. High-end printers recalibrate after 40 or 50 copies; less-robust printers do it after printing several hundred copies. If your printer will be for an in-house graphic design or publications department, however, or if you have to make a sample for an outside printing service, you should look into the availability of color-matching utilities. You will know if you need these more-sophisticated tools--your users will ask for them.
Another contributor to color quality is the toner you use. Every printer vendor recommends sticking with its brand-name consumables to maximize print quality and fidelity. The third-party replacements you see at office superstores sure are cheap, though. What's the trade-off?
In April 2006, HP commissioned a Reliability Comparison Study from QualityLogic. The study compared HP's color toner cartridges with remanufactured color toner cartridges from twelve third-party vendors, including Office Depot and OfficeMax. Of the remanufactured cartridges, 80 percent showed reliability problems, versus 2 percent of the HP cartridges tested. All of the remanufactured cartridges also showed "noticeable color differences" and less color consistency compared with HP color. Recent PC World tests confirmed that prints made with manufacturers' ink looked better than those created with third-party ink.
In short, you'll have to decide whether color variation tolerance or low cost of ownership is worth more to you. If you choose remanufactured cartridges, keep in mind that many third-party vendors offer an exchange rather than a refund if you are dissatisfied with their product.
Next Steps
Once you've decided on a printer, study the buying process to make sure you're covered if something goes wrong. You should also confirm the return policy at the store where you're making the purchase, to ensure that you can bring the printer back if it doesn't meet your needs. If you purchase the printer from an online vendor, make certain ahead of time that you won't get stuck paying a restocking fee. Also, don't expect to be able to recoup the cost of shipping the printer back.
The color laser printer market continues to offer more, better, and even greener products. According to a recent IDC report, color lasers at the highest end will reach 45 ppm by next year, though 20 to 30 ppm remains the sweet spot for print speeds until at least then. Continued competition in the consumables market will help keep operating costs in line--if you're willing to forgo brand-name toner. Eco-friendly choices include recycled laser paper and toner cartridges, two-sided printing options, and lower power-consumption levels. The upshot is, whatever your need might be--speed, versatility, or a lower cost to operate--it's a great time to buy.

Whether you're a single user who prints newsletters at home or you're buying for a corporate marketing department that designs collateral materials, you're in a buyer's market. Color laser printers are becoming progressively faster, smaller, and cheaper to operate than ever before, and with prices starting at $300, they're affordable for all budgets.
The lowest-end (sub-$500) color laser printers, while incredibly affordable, are typically slow and have limited paper capacity--and they aren't cheap to operate, due to the relatively high cost of consumables. Printers in the $500-to-$1000 range are faster, handle more paper and different paper sizes, and cost less to maintain than inexpensive models. If you're prepared to pay over $1000, the sky's the limit: You'll find printers with workhorse print speeds, large-capacity paper trays, lower costs per page, and sophisticated paper options. Here are a few key features to consider when looking for a color laser that will work best for your business.
The Need for Speed
Before you buy any printer, you'll need to figure out how many pages your office prints per month. Then you'll need to look at the specified engine speed and monthly duty cycle of the printer you're considering, to see whether your usage pattern fits within the printer's capabilities.
The printer's engine speed, expressed as a page-per-minute (ppm) specification, tells you how fast the printer is under ideal conditions (or, in some cases, the rather unnatural conditions achieved in a vendor's test environment). In our tests for our Top 10 Color Laser Printers chart, most printers do no better than 75 percent of their top engine speed. The cheapest color laser printers, not surprisingly, are usually far pokier than their makers claim them to be. Nevertheless, engine speed is a decent guideline for figuring out whether the printer can handle your office's output on a day-to-day basis. The more people who use the printer, and the more they print, the higher that engine speed should be--unless you like hanging around the printer with your coworkers, waiting to see whose print job comes out first.
The same goes for the printer's specified duty cycle, which defines the manufacturer's threshold for the maximum number of pages printed per month. You want a lot of room between your usual print volume and that maximum. Light-duty, entry-level printers typically have a duty cycle of 30,000 pages per month. Sub-$1000, midrange printers have an average duty cycle of 60,000 pages per month; high-volume, $1000-to-$2000 printers average 100,000 pages per month.
The Resolution Game
Do you need to worry about a printer's optical resolution--the number of dots per inch it can print? Probably not. Even the least expensive color laser printers have a true, optical resolution of 600 by 600 dpi, which is suitable for most mainstream business needs. Many vendors apply enhancement algorithms to emulate higher resolutions, and some offer true 1200-by-1200-dpi resolution. But don't worry about the higher resolution unless you need a truly fine level of print quality. Just be prepared to wait longer for your print to come out.
An equally important factor in your buying decision should be the cost per page to operate the printer. All printer consumables come with a page-life specification that tells you how many pages the unit will print, based on a sample set of printed pages. Your mileage will vary, depending on what you actually print.
The lowest-end color lasers have smaller toner cartridges that usually last just a few thousand pages. They cost a lot to replace, but if you use color sparingly, then you won't be swapping out the cartridge often. If you print a lot of color, you need a machine whose toner cartridges have longer page lives; they cost less per page and, of course, don't have to be replaced as frequently.
In most color laser printers (especially at the lower end), the toner cartridges include the toner, the imaging component, and the toner waste receptacle in a self-contained unit. Though this design is easier to deal with on a day-to-day basis, it's generally more expensive in the long run, because you have to replace all of those parts at once. Some printers, mostly at the higher end, separate the components and give them different page lives. Installing replacements in this kind of setup requires more skill and finesse, but models of this design cost less to operate over time.
Be aware that even some high-end printers ship with low-capacity, "starter" toner cartridges. These cartridges typically have a yield of less than half that of replacement cartridges. You could save some money up front by finding a vendor that offers to bundle additional toner cartridges at a discounted price when you buy the printer.
Paper Traffic
Another significant difference among color laser printers is how they handle paper--how much, and of what size. The main paper tray on the vast majority of inexpensive (sub-$500) printers tops out at 250 sheets. Often you don't get an option to add an extra paper tray. Another potential drawback is that such printers usually can't handle anything larger than legal-size paper--and in a few cases, the only way to print legal-size documents on such models at all is through the manual-feed tray. In fact, lately we've seen a few lower-end printers that skip legal-size paper entirely in their standard configurations.
As you go up the price scale, you'll find paper-tray capacities of up to 600 sheets for midrange printers and nearly 1200 sheets for higher-end units. Paper trays on these models almost always accept both letter- and legal-size paper. Wide-format printers will take tabloid-size paper, which could be handy if you want to print booklets or other, more-sophisticated documents in-house.
If you print on photo paper, transparencies, CD/DVD sleeves, or envelopes, you'll need to assess the printer's ability to handle those media. Often you'll need to use the manual-feed tray for that kind of printing. We've encountered the good, the bad, and the ugly in manual-feed tray designs. During a recent evaluation of the HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni, we couldn't induce a paper jam no matter what we tried. We crumpled and folded and spindled, but each page sailed straight through the printer without a hitch. On the other hand, the Oki C8800n, another model we tested recently, had an incredibly complicated and unintuitive manual-feed tray design that the documentation didn't even fully explain. A poor design such as that of the Oki also increases the possibility of users breaking several of the parts.
Reliable Color
All color lasers self-regulate for color consistency by performing regular calibration routines. The process helps to ensure that the twenty-fifth copy of your brochure will look basically the same as the first. High-end printers recalibrate after 40 or 50 copies; less-robust printers do it after printing several hundred copies. If your printer will be for an in-house graphic design or publications department, however, or if you have to make a sample for an outside printing service, you should look into the availability of color-matching utilities. You will know if you need these more-sophisticated tools--your users will ask for them.
Another contributor to color quality is the toner you use. Every printer vendor recommends sticking with its brand-name consumables to maximize print quality and fidelity. The third-party replacements you see at office superstores sure are cheap, though. What's the trade-off?
In April 2006, HP commissioned a Reliability Comparison Study from QualityLogic. The study compared HP's color toner cartridges with remanufactured color toner cartridges from twelve third-party vendors, including Office Depot and OfficeMax. Of the remanufactured cartridges, 80 percent showed reliability problems, versus 2 percent of the HP cartridges tested. All of the remanufactured cartridges also showed "noticeable color differences" and less color consistency compared with HP color. Recent PC World tests confirmed that prints made with manufacturers' ink looked better than those created with third-party ink.
In short, you'll have to decide whether color variation tolerance or low cost of ownership is worth more to you. If you choose remanufactured cartridges, keep in mind that many third-party vendors offer an exchange rather than a refund if you are dissatisfied with their product.
Next Steps
Once you've decided on a printer, study the buying process to make sure you're covered if something goes wrong. You should also confirm the return policy at the store where you're making the purchase, to ensure that you can bring the printer back if it doesn't meet your needs. If you purchase the printer from an online vendor, make certain ahead of time that you won't get stuck paying a restocking fee. Also, don't expect to be able to recoup the cost of shipping the printer back.
The color laser printer market continues to offer more, better, and even greener products. According to a recent IDC report, color lasers at the highest end will reach 45 ppm by next year, though 20 to 30 ppm remains the sweet spot for print speeds until at least then. Continued competition in the consumables market will help keep operating costs in line--if you're willing to forgo brand-name toner. Eco-friendly choices include recycled laser paper and toner cartridges, two-sided printing options, and lower power-consumption levels. The upshot is, whatever your need might be--speed, versatility, or a lower cost to operate--it's a great time to buy.

Pengguna Google Book Search Indonesia Kalahkan China dan Malaysia
Berita Koran IT - Tingginya angka tersebut merupakan hasil kontribusi nyata dan kerja keras para penerbit buku Indonesia yang aktif mengirimkan data buku-buku mereka ke dalam Google Book Search. Google Inc mendapuk India untuk menempati posisi teratas di Asia. Sementara itu, di urutan pertama "top ten" jumlah pengguna Google Book Search di seluruh dunia ditempati oleh AS. Data tersebut diungkapkan oleh Erik Hartmann, Strategic Partner Development Google, saat mempresentasikan Google Book Search pukul 09.00 pagi tadi (6/3) di Gedung PBMM (Penerbit Buku Kompas Gramedia), Palmerah Selatan. Kedatangan Erik, perwakilan Google dari Singapura itu, dalam rangka memenuhi undangan 'Diskusi Terbatas Google - PBMM', yang dimoderatori oleh Edi Taslim dari Kompas.com.
"Teknologi selalu berubah dan ini baru terjadi pada kami, yaitu sebuah model baru bisnis teknologi," tutur Erik kepada Kompas.com seusai presentasi. "Dan kami berterima kasih kepada para penerbit di grup Gramedia yang telah begitu aktif mengirimkan data-data buku mereka kepada kami," tambahnya. Erik mengatakan, hadirnya Google Book Search ini bukan tidak mungkin semakin menyemarakkan nadi bisnis bidang penerbitan di Indonesia. "Kemungkinan itu besar sekali mengingat online channel di Indonesia juga terus mengalami perkembangan yang signifikan, baik itu dari sisi kebijakan, jumlah provider, serta media yang bermain di industri ini," tambahnya.Terkait perkembangan tersebut, Erik menyontohkan prospek industri penjualan buku online di AS tahun lalu. Penjualan online mampu mencetak angka 13 persen, hanya selisih 5 persen lebih kecil dari penjualan langsung di toko buku. Jualan online tersebut bahkan mampu mengalahkan penjualan di klub baca buku yang hanya mencapai 5 persen. "Dan tentu saja, penjualan dengan cara ini akan membuat strategi pemasaran para penerbit akan semakin luas, apalagi tidak perlu biaya untuk calon konsumen mengaksesnya," tandas Erik.
Shiretoko, Browser Anyar Milik Mozilla Firefox

Pasalnya, Mozilla mengungkapkan kalau perubahan nama itu dilakukan untuk mempopulerkan Forefox yang telah mengalami banyak perubahan sejak diluncurkannya Firefox 3.0 pada pertengahan tahun lalu. Dalam perjalannya, banyak perubahan yang akan terjadi di Shiretoko. Ini termasuk peningkatan tab browsing, kompatibilitas terhadap standar web seperti CSS 3, serta engine JavaScript TraceMonkey yang diklaim 40 kali lebih cepat. Selain itu juga terdapat fitur private browsing yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk menggunakan internet tanpa meninggalkan jejak situs sebelumnya.
Seperti dikutip dari TechCrunch, Minggu (8/3/2009), masih ada juga banyak fitur kecil di Firefox 3.5 yang dibuat sederhana dan menarik. Seperti, fitur pencarian tab melalui Awesome Bar, perubahan halaman profil yang memperlihatkan data pengguna berdasarkan riwayat web, dan fitur untuk menghapus riwayat web secara selektif di jendela waktu yang ditentukan.Saat ini pihak pengembang terus melakukan pengembangan, dengan memperbaiki baru yang ditemukan maupun sekitar 100 bug penting lain yang sudah diketahui.

Pertemuan tersebut (8/3) dalam rangka membicarakan kemungkinan kerjasama membuat tayangan musik video seperti yang dilakukan Hulu pada konsep distribusi online tayangan televisi. Dalam perbincangan awal itu, ketiga perusahaan mengharapkan YouTube menyajikan teknologi dan penyokong iklan bagi sebuah tujuan baru distribusi video musik sebaik yang dilakukan pada konsep pendistribusian video di situs. "Kami selalu bekerja dengan para rekanan kami untuk menemukan cara-cara kreatif terkait musik, musisi dan fans-nya," kata Chris Dale, juru bicara YouTube.
Untuk itulah, ketiganya juga berharap, kerjasama ini akan dapat menyamai sukses Hulu, --sebagai hasil kerjasama News Corp dan NBC Universal, yang memuat tayangan televisi secara penuh di situs mereka dan media online lain, serta didukung pangsa iklan yang sangat besar. "Kita berada di persaingan industri musik yang semakin menggila akibat kemajuan media digital, jadi mereka berhasrat sebisa mungkin untuk terus mencari keuntungan dari celah mana saja," tandas James Mc Quivey, seorang analisis media di Forrester Research. 1. Hati-hati pada Attachment Email Anda
Jangan membuka file attachment pada email yang anda terima walaupun dari orang yang anda kenal jika attachment tersebut mengandung file program komputer dengan extension atau akhiran .exe, .pif, .bat, dan lain sebagainya. 2. Pasang / Install Software Keamanan Yang Terbaru
Pastikan komputer anda terinstall 3 jenis software keamanan utama dan terpasang dengan setting yang otomatis mengamankan komputer anda tanpa anda harus nyalakan terlebih dahulu. 3. Jangan Gegabah Menginstall Software

3. Untuk mengaktifkan instant messenger di Yahoo! Mail, klik tombol segitiga di samping kanan link “Offline” Link ini berada di atas halaman.

5. Tunggu beberapa saat hingga muncul daftar teman ngobrol Anda di panel kiri halaman web.

Blue Screen Saat Burning
Optical drive berupa CDRW sudah merupakan hal yang lumrah kita jumpai pada sebuah PC pada saat ini. Kebutuhan untuk membackup data, music bahkan untuk memudahkan pertukaran data sangat dimudahkan dengan menggunakan CDRW, walaupun tentu ada piranti lain yang bisa digunakan, tetapi CDRW tentu saja masih menjadi pilihan moderat dikarenakan harganya yang tidak terpaut jauh dengan CDROM.
Pada saat penggunaanya terkadang kita jumpai keadaan dimana system mengalami blue screen yang menandakan terjadinya crash program. Hal tersebut berakibat gagalnya proses burning yang tentu membuat anda hanya bisa memandangi keping CD yang gagal buring dan kemudian berakhir di bak sampah. Mengapa hal tersebut terjadi? diantara beberapa faktor penyebab, diantaranya adalah masalah kompabilitas hardware dan setting default pada system. Umumnya CDRW berkecepatan burning tinggi masih ada yang menggunakan mode PIO 4, sebetulnya hal tersebut dimaksudkan untuk menjaga kompabilitas antara CDRW dengan hardware lama. Terkadang driver mainboard yang autorun secara default akan mengaktifkan CDRW dengan mode DMA, hal tersebut dimaksudkan untuk mempercepat kinerja hardware. Akan tetapi hal tersebut jadi bermasalah karena CDRW masih menggunakan mode PIO 4. Umumnya blue screen terjadi saat dilakukan burning dan saat itu anda sedang membuka program lain (multitasking).
SOLUSINYA :
Hilangkan tanda centang (unchekck) pada opsi DMA pada DEVICE MANAGER, sehingga system tidak mengaktifkan mode DMA, dan tetap mengikuti mode PIO 4 yang digunakan CDRW anda.
CATATAN :
Cermati hal ini jika anda menggunakan Board chipset VIA, dikarenakan driver mainboard dengan 4in1 service pack VIA secara default mengaktifkan mode DMA pada drive anda.

Kesulitan masuk BIOS PC Branded?
Umumnya akses setup BIOS adalah dengan menekan tombol "DEL" atau "F2" sesaat ketika komputer dihidupkan/POST.. Tetapi tahukah anda bahwa beberapa manufaktur pembuat BIOS menerapkan penggunaan tombol atau bahkan kombinasi tombolyang berbeda?. Pada PC impor atau sering kita sebut Branded, terkadang tidak bisa mengakses BIOS dengan menggunakan tombol "DEL" atau "F2". Nah berikut daftar manufaktur beserta kode tombol untuk mengakses setup BIOS.

Boot Sequence
Boot Sequence atau urutan booting, merupakan istilah yang sering kita dengar pada saat proses awal instalasi. Pada pengaturan BIOS terdapat opsi untuk menentukan device mana yang akan diboot atau dibaca terlebih dahulu. Umumnya terdapat 4 opsi, yaitu booting melalui disket, melalui cd rom, melalui ufd atau langsung memboot file system yang ada di harddisk. Pada penggunaan CPU normal, boot sequence diatur untuk memboot harddisk terlebih dahulu sehingga proses loading startup cpu bisa sedikit lebih cepat, karena start up tidak perlu "mampir" terlebih dulu untuk memeriksa apakah di fdd atu cdrom terdapat file system yang mungkin untuk dibaca. Walaupun sebenarnya jika boot sequence memiliki urutan boot A:, CDrom, HD yang berarti start up memeriksa apakah di A:/FDD terdapat file system? jika di FDD tidak terdapat file system (tidak dipasang disket/disket tidak memiliki file system) maka startup akan membaca device pada urutan yang kedua yaitu CDROM, jika pada CDrom tidak terdapat file system maka komputer akan meneruskan membaca urutan yang berikutnya yaitu Harddisk. Pada proses instalasi operating system fresh (harddisk masih kosong) maupun repair (harddisk ada OS tetapi sudah error, umumnya dilakukan booting dan instalasi melalui media optical device, diantaranya adalah lewat CDROM. Pada proses ini pengaturan boot sequnce diperlukan dengan merubah seting boot sequence pada BIOS agar komputer ketika statup memboot cdrom terlebih dahulu, sehingga cd installer yang kita letakkan pada cdrom bisa terbaca dan proses instalasi bisa berjalan
Tips Merawat Keyboard
Keyboard tentu tidak asing lagi kita dengarkan istilah tersebut apalagi bagi yang sudah mengenal istilah komputer. Keyboard sebagai salah satu Input Device untuk mengoperasikan komputer seringkali dijadikan pertimbangan ke sekian pada saat seseorang membeli 1 unit komputer, bahkan sudah jamak kita menyebutnya Keyboard Standard . Keyboard standard ataupun yang bermutu bagus tentu suatu saat akan sampai tiba waktunya ngadat, nah untuk sedikit menunda “kematian” keyboard berikut tips perawatan keyboard yang bisa kita lakukan.
- Belilah Keyboard yang memiliki Brand Name dengan reputasi bagus dalam hal pembuatan produk keyboard, memang harus merogoh kocek lebih dalam untuk menghindarkan kejengkelan anda terhadap keyboard yang dibeli kemudian digunakan 1 bulan rusak dan akhirnya membelinya lagi.
- Touch With Heart, karena Keyboard tentu berbeda jauh dengan papan ketik manual; yang perlu tenaga extra untuk memencetnya. Keyboard menggunakan denyut pulsa elektronik yang hanya memerlukan sentuhan kecil untuk memberikan efek
- Usahakan tidak meletakan sesuatu yang berat,.. buku misalnya di atas tust keyboard. Hal tersebut menyebabkan mekanisme pembalik berupa per lembut atau pembalik berupa bahan plastik lembut menjadi keras dan tidak lentur, dan akhirnya menguarangi kenyaman untuk memakainya.
- Tempatkan Keyboardsedemikian rupa sehingga mudah dan nyaman digunakan. Selain itu dengan posisi yang baik, beban karena hentakan jari ketika mengetik menjadi merata. Usahakan kabel penghubung keyboard ke port Ps2 tidak terbelit atau tertekuk.
- Hindarkan dari percikan air,.. kopi misalnya dan hindarkan dari debu dan abu rokok. Debu termasuk diantaranya abu rokok jika masuk ke dalam sela-sela keyboard tentu menjadi menghambat mekanisme pembalik. Mungkin saja per lembut atau plastik pembalut masih lentur.. tapi tentu tidak lancar karena kaki-kaki tombol terhambat oleh tumpukan debu.
- Biasakan pembersihan berkala terhadap sela-sela tuts pada keyboard menggunakan kuas ataupun air spray atau jika perlu gunakan hembusan dari mulut anda. Lakukan pembersihan tersebut dengan posisi keyboard terbalik sehingga memudahkan keluarnya kotoran yang menyumbat sela-sela keyboard.
- Nah.. agar anda tidak perlu mukanya memerah gara-gara keseringan menghembus debu di sela-sela keyboard.. gunakan penutup plastik atau selembar koran untuk menutup keyboard selama keyboard tersebut tidak dipergunakan
